All girls have a core ICT lesson from Infant through to Year 9.
The aim is to give them both practical skills in using a computer
and an understanding of the impact of technology on their lives.
ICT lessons are taught in dedicated ICT suites
using desktop computers. ICT is also used regularly
within the curriculum and class teachers have the opportunity
to book out laptops for use in their classrooms. Girls are encouraged
to use ICT whenever it is appropriate both at home and in school.
Year 7
In addition to the following, the class will be expected to learn touch typing using BBC Dance Mat.
Presentation Software
Powerpoint Presentation on Global Warming and Pollution.
Presentation will concentrate on threats to our planet and solutions to the problems.
Marks will be awarded for:

Appropriate images and colours
Appropriate language – considering the age of the audience.
Appropriate music and sounds (see Music Compilation below)
Appropriate video – if required
Slide transitions and animations.
Appropriate slide timings – depending on the reading age of the audience.
Narration – using Audacity and Lame. Audacity enables speech to be recorded. Lame converts speech to an MP3 format to be inserted
into Powerpoint.
Assessment. Class will be given mark sheets and will award marks to their class members. This mark will be used in conjunction
with the teachers mark.
Music Compilation
Use Dance E Jay to use music samples to create “Mood” music for their PowerPoint presentations.
Convert and export files to MP3 format to enable them to be embedded into their presentations.
Desk Top Publishing
Year 7 will produce five pieces of work.
A newsletter about a topic of their choice.
A folded menu from a restaurant of their choice – English, Chinese, Indian, American, Italian, Dungeon, Alien!
A poster advertising the restaurant.
A basic Web Site on their restaurant, with a minimum of three hyperlinked pages.
Certificates of merit and seasonal cards.

Assessment
Terminal Examination (75%) (2 hours)
The terminal examination paper will be based on an externally set context. The examination will test a candidate's knowledge of the full range
of subject content of business studies related to the context. This context will be issued in July of the year before the terminal examination
as pre-reading in the form of a Research Brief. The Research Brief will also be reproduced in the terminal examination paper.
Controlled Assessment (25%)
The Controlled Assessment is 25% of the overall assessment. Candidates will have 12 hours to carry out the research for the Controlled
Assessment - this does not include the time spent interviewing people as part of their primary research.
The Controlled Assessment must be completed within 3 weeks of completing the research and candidates will have 3 hours to carry out the Controlled Task.
Candidates will use the research they have carried out to analyse the problem or situation, make and evaluate their decisions and present their
finding in any suitable format.
Candidates need to keep a bibliography of any books, materials, websites etc that they have used. The Controlled Assessment can be taken
during the first or second year of the course but will be submitted to the Awarding Body in the Summer Term of the final year by a specified date.
The Controlled Assessment is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated.
