The physical education department works
towards providing a curriculum with the following long term aims:
- A stimulating and rewarding experience of Physical Education,
- A firm footing in a variety of activities that will enable
them to participate actively for many years to come in adulthood,
- A degree of understanding about the effects of exercise
on the body that will encourage them to remain active and
lead a healthy lifestyle,
- An experience of taking part in teams and competitions amongst
each other and against other schools,
- An experience which demonstrates that physical activity
is fun and enjoyable to be involved in,
- A knowledge of local clubs, organisation and leisure facilities
which will enable them to use and extend their skills and
involvement further,
- A valuable experience of physical activity contributing
to the education of the whole person.
Key Stage 3
At key stage 3 the pupils have two 2 hour lessons.
They study the following areas of study:
- Netball
- Hockey
- Dance
- Educational Gymnastics
- Trampolining
- Athletics
- Tennis
- Rounders
- Swimming
Key Stage 4
At key stage 4 the department offers two GCSE examination courses:
- GCSE Physical Education
- GCSE Performing Arts: Dance
All pupils at key stage 4 will have a general
physical education lesson. During this time the department aims
to broaden the pupil’s outlook in relation to sport/activity.
The pupils have a selection of activities which can be followed
:
- Aerobics
- Circuit Training
- Football
- Rugby
- Self-Defence
- Badminton
- Table Tennis
- Volleyball
- Basketball
- Trampolining
The pupils may also choose to continue with
sports studied in key stage 3.
Extra Curricular Activities
The physical education department offers a variety of extra curricular
clubs for the pupils including,
- Netball Club and Teams
- Hockey Club and Teams
- Dance Club
- Gymnastics Club
- Volleyball Club
- Rounders Club and Teams
- Athletics Club
- Badminton Club
- Sailing Club
- Horse-riding Club
- Duke of Edinburgh Award
Trips and Holidays
When possible the department aims to take pupils to experience
international level sport and dance.
Ski holidays and Multi-activity holidays
are regularly undertaken to offer pupils the opportunity to experience
adventure learning.
